Dan is a licensed therapist with Masters degrees in Special Education and Marriage & Family Therapy. He was part of the team that developed an alternative educational program in the public school system in Trumbull, Connecticut. He also developed and directed an outdoor adventure program for youth and families that was implemented in the Diocese of Bridgeport.

Dan is a founding partner of Gates & Gates Associates, a psychotherapy practice serving individuals, couples, and families with an emphasis on the treatment and resolution of trauma. He is a clinical member of the American and Connecticut Associations for Marriage and Family Therapists, and is a clinical member and a former approved consultant for the EMDR International Association.

Dan completed his post-graduate training in Family Constellations and was awarded a Certificate of Completion for Facilitation in 2005. He trained with New England Center for Systemic Constellations founder J. Edward Lynch. Since that time, he has conducted workshops for individuals and for groups, as well as for numerous churches, schools and other organizations, helping to build and strengthen community connections. He is the father of three grown children.
